TO ALL WHO ENJOY HOLIDAY MUSIC
(Everyone-Please note the increase in the registration fee this year. The increase is mandated by the foundation, not the local coordinator.)
To all Band Directors and Interested Persons;
I am pleased to announce that the 18th annual Lorain TubaChristmas will take place on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Lorain Palace Civic Center on Broadway in Lorain! If you are not familiar with TubaChristmas, it is an event that was begun by Harvey Phillips in 1973 to honor his teacher and mentor, the great tubist William Bell, who was born on Christmas Day 1902; and to honor and acknowledge Alec Wilder, the arranger of Carols for a Merry TubaChristmas, who died on Christmas Eve, 1980. The only instruments allowed to participate are members of the tuba family, including baritones and euphoniums. Marching-type baritones and sousaphones are allowed. No other instruments may be used at TubaChristmas. There are always many people who for one day each year switch to tuba or baritone in order to participate.
If you are not a musician but you know or are someone who enjoys old-fashioned holiday events, please join us at 2:00 pm for a free concert of Christmas Carols performed by this unusual but beautiful-sounding ensemble. Part of the concert is a sing-along of your favorite Christmas Carols, and be sure to bring some Jingle Bells so that you can be part of the fun!
The performance is free and open to the public.
If you would like to play with us, registration is $10.00 and the music we use, the book Carols for a Merry TubaChristmas Volume 2, is available at an additional cost of $20.00 at the registration table. Carols for a Merry TubaChristmas is available in both treble and bass clef versions. If you still have the book from last year, you don’t need to buy another one. Tuba, euphonium and baritone players of all skill levels are welcome.
The schedule for December 16 will be: 10:00-11:00 AM-Registration
11:00 AM-1:00 PM-Rehearsal
Free city parking is available near the theater. Lunch is provided at no cost.
Remember to bring a music stand and to dress in bright colors in the spirit of the season!
Tubists and euphoniumists are encouraged to decorate their instruments in the spirit of Christmas.
If you have any questions or if you can give me an idea of how many students from your school might be interested in coming, give me a call at 440 506-5714 (home) or 949-4221 (school). I will be glad to discuss any aspect of TubaChristmas with you.

WE NEED YOUR HELP
On Thursday, December 5th, 2013 at 7PM Edison High Music Department will have their annual Christmas Concert to be held at the Edison High School Auditorium. At that concert, the Edison Music Boosters will be sponsoring a Christmas Cookie Sale fund raiser. This fund raiser is to help to sponsor music scholarships.
We are asking all members of band and choir to DONATE a BATCH OF HOMEMADE FANCY STYLE CHRISTMAS COOKIES (about 3 dozen). The parents will then box them up. At the concert, we will sell the two pound boxes of assorted cookies for $5.00 each. Some of us are not bakers and also have time issues, therefore, if you would so choose to make a cash donation instead of cookies this would be fine. Also, if for some reason you are unable to participate in the activity, just send me a note or call. No problem.
Please do not send in store bought pre-packaged style cookies such as Oreos, etc.
Please bring your cookies to school on Tuesday, December 3rd before school begins. Put all cookies in the band room.
Be sure to put your name on the cookies and check them in with the moms or Mrs. Reilly.
PREPARING THE COOKIES: If you can bag your cookies, it would be a great help to us. It’s hard to visualize the quantity of cookies we handle. These are only suggestions.
Small cookies – 3 to 4 cookies into a sandwich bag
Larger cookies and frosted cutouts – one per bag
Fudge or fancy brownies – one piece per sandwich bag
M&M or chocolate chip cookies – 3 per sandwich bag
Bring all cookies in DISPOSABLE containers. Place the bagged cookies into grocery sacks, zip-lock bags, plastic bags, or boxes. Be sure to put your name on your cookies.
If you would like to help, package cookies on Tuesday, December 3rd during the school day please return the bottom of this paper to Mrs. Reilly by Monday, December 2nd.
The Music Boosters thank you very much for your continuing support of our kids!
* About 15-20 volunteers are needed to pack cookies on Tuesday, December 3rd from 7:30AM-11AM in the EHS Band room.

My name is Ryan Barta, and I am the Treasurer of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity at The Ohio State University. Along with our sister organization Tau Beta Sigma, we are responsible for the selling of the official Buckeye Invitational T-Shirts and Hoodies. We received numerous requests from HS band members and parents about purchasing these items because we sold out during the event. We have set up an online store where students and their parents can purchase the shirts and hoodies. We are closing the orders off on November 1st, and will ship them in one large box to their respective schools. Please distribute the three links below for these items to your HS bands. Also, please remind your students to indicate their High School in the “Notes to Seller” window of the shopping cart.
Red Hoodie ($25.00 to $28.00)
Please consider making a donation to the EHS Music Boosters. Your contributions, both in volunteering and providing a donation, help to sustain our school’s vibrant music programs. All donations, no matter what size, help make our music programs a success. Thank you for your continued support of the Edison Music Programs.
